Standardized Test Preparation
Throughout the year, all work that students do in Honors English 2 will build toward success in high-stakes standardized tests including those required for college admission like the SAT and ACT.
PSAT Test PrepWhen Do I Take the PSAT? |
WHY TAKE THE PSAT?The PSAT is designed to PREPARE you for both the SAT and ACT and is taken in the 10th and /or 11th grade year. Not only does it familiarize you with the content, structure and process of the test, but you will receive information you can use to design a study plan to prepare for the real thing. Students in 11th grade also have the ability to earn scholarships (like National Merit Scholarships) based on their performance.

The PSAT date is set by the College Board and only offered once a year in October. Students may take this test here on campus during the regular school day. Talk to your counselor about how to sign-up or a waiver if you cannot afford the fee.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SAT AND ACT?
Most 4-year colleges require that you submit SAT or ACT scores as part of the application process, but allow YOU to CHOOSE the test that is best for you. Each has distinct differences so do a little research ahead of time to find out which test you should take. Most students choose to take these tests TWICE - the first time in the spring of their eleventh grade year and a second time in the fall of senior year.
The SAT 2's (also called SAT Subject Tests)
Some colleges require the Subject Tests in addition to the SAT or ACT. These schools will often ask that you pick two subjects that best demonstrate your academic expertise. This is particularly true if you’re applying to certain programs within a school like an engineering or pre-med program. There are 20 SAT Subject Tests.
